Wonder in the Water
Wonder in the Water
Acrylic on canvas, 36 x 36 x 1.5"
This painting explores the theme of water as a portal to another realm, as disguiser extraordinaire, glinting enchantress. The thick mist above a waterfall obscures the distant shore. The depths are alive with flecks of color and gold.
This painting was inspired by a lyric from a song by my favorite Canadian band, The Tragically Hip:
"Well, Tom Thomson came paddling past,
I'm pretty sure it was him
And he spoke so softly in accordance to the
growing of the dim"
It gives a nod to the Canadian artist and outdoorsman, an avid fisherman and canoeist. His work greatly inspired me as a youth. His paintings, along with the works of the Group of Seven, influenced me to pursue art more seriously around the age of 12.
