38th Annual Juried Exhibition: Opening tomorrow!

I’m happy to share that two of my paintings are included in the 38th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Barbara Conrad Art Gallery in Durango, Colorado, opening tomorrow:

July 11 – August 9
Opening reception: Friday, July 11 from 5-7 p.m.

Durango Arts Center: Barbara Conrad Art Gallery

I’m excited that I’ll be able to attend the opening reception and spend a few days in this beautiful town. In addition to getting to meet new people and experience the art and culture of Durango, my mini-trip will include camping, hiking and lots of new scenery for sketching and painting.

New sketches from my watercolor table

I’m in the midst of a 5 week road-trip madness adventure extravaganza, only the road trip part of it is complete. I’ve been staying with dear friend and using my travel watercolor set on a little 2 x 3 foot desk that has become my workspace. My mind is on birds; their immense migrations, their delicate frames and the subtle hues of their plumage.

Singing at Los Ojos

I had quite an adventure filled day yesterday with mountain hikes, hot springs and dinner in a little restaurant and saloon “Los Ojos”. BAT was our entertainer that evening and sang hours of non-stop requests with gusto as his wife Brenda sat nearby mouthing all the words, taking pictures and tapping her toes with enthusiasm.

The evening took an interesting turn when BAT handed over his 12 string to anyone who felt like singing! There was only one other person aside from myself that felt like taking the mic, but it was a great time! So this is how I came to gain my first experience singing in a bar to a very small but enthusiastic group.

I felt the need to revisit this place with so much character so I sat across the street today and made some paintings. For more pictures of the place visit the Los Ojos website.
