Day 17: Favorite plant. Right now my favorite plant is one of the only ones I’ve been able to keep alive through the New Mexico summer.

For day 14 of the Drawing Challenge I was supposed to draw my favorite fairy tale. I personally really enjoy fairy tales involving bears. One is The Bear collected by Andrew Lang in The Grey Fairy Book. A princess is sort of turned into a bear. Another tale describes a girl who runs off with a bear. They’re both great. Disney’s Pixar “Brave” involves bears in a similar fashion. All good!
Here’s my drawn fairy tale:
Day 13 of the drawing challenge calls for a comic. This drawing challenge has held me up for a few days. I adore comics but am never quite sure how to cram the stories I want to tell into a small comic panel. I get caught in one depiction of a human and end up – much later – with one nice drawing of a character, unable (or unwilling?) to reproduce them the seven more times I’d need to.
So… here is the kind of comic I can produce. You should be able to click on the image to see it a bit larger.
Day 12: Draw your most recent accomplishment.
This is a drawing a lace shawl that I designed recently. The shawl was inspired by the architecture of the Eiffel Tower  and is composed of lattice lace sections, ridge sections and rows of eyelets to suggest the scaffolding and platforms of the tower.
This shawl is the first knitting pattern I’ve written but it was enthusiastically received when published on Ravelry.com. I am very pleased to say that there are more than 130 shawls in progress (or already completed) right now. To me, that is an accomplishment I can feel proud of.
This drawing obviously does not do the shawl justice, but you may find it interesting nonetheless. I have become an avid knitter over the past year and a half, such that I am often thinking about how to paint and draw knitting. Who knows how these different art forms might intersect in my future!
Here is a photo of the actual shawl. For more information about it or to knit it yourself, follow the link above and join Ravelry! The website is free and this pattern is also free – for a limited time.
Hello all,
I ignored Day 9 (favorite tv show) for the time being and instead drew Day 10 (favorite candy) and Day 11 (turning point in your life).
In regards to favorite candy… I had to draw the wrapper because I ate all the chocolate itself… These “buttons” are the British version of Cadbury chocolates as we North Americans know it and altogether much tastier than US chocolate. Sorry USA.
Next I drew the faint outline of my wedding day, the “turning point” in my life where my husband’s and my individual trajectories collided and formed a new life path. With a few lines I outlined the people present and suggested the big pine tree we were under for our short, casual ceremony atop a mountain in New Mexico. Sometime a line is enough to describe what you remember or feel.
Stay tuned for more drawing challenges and surprises 🙂
