The State of Mind paintings, made between 2016 to present, investigate the visualization of a psychological space and how perceptions are digested then reconfigured in this visual space of the mind.
Water is a common feature or inspiration in these works. It is an embodied thing with an elusive physicality. Water is a transitional, liminal space where things emerge from; an idea space. The “State of Mind” paintings allude to the common metaphor for the mind in meditation as a pool of water. In my animations (viewable on vimeo.com) water is explored as a living, breathing entity, an all-encompassing, consuming environment and a vehicle of transformation.
